Chinese
Traditional Yang-qin Instrument
Yang-qin
The yang-qin, the Chinese version of the hammered dulcimer, was first
introduced to China from Persia and became popular in the
country during the Ming dynasty (1368-1644). Musical notes are produced
by striking the bamboo hammers on any of the 170 strings stretched across
a trapezoidal soundboard. The modified yang-qin played on this recording
is the Model 81, designed by Guo Min-qing's husband, Samuel Hong, in
1981.
