Dunhuang Chamber Ensemble
Biography
Individually and together, they are recognized as masters of Chinese music and traditional instruments. Founded in 1997 by yangqin specialists Samuel Hong and Anna Guo, the Dunhuang Traditional Chinese Ensemble unites five acknowledged masters of Chinese chamber music. Hong, formally recognized in his native country as one of the "Cultural and Artistic Celebrities of Modern China," and Guo have been performing and teaching for nearly three decades. Recognized worldwide for their brilliance and virtuosity, they have now moved to Canada, where they have assembled a group of outstandingly talented and skilled musicians. Performing on stages and festivals throughout North America, their aim is to introduce Chinese chamber music to new audiences, create new forms and styles and foster communication between Eastern and Western traditions. They recently recorded an album of traditional Chinese music called Yangqin & Zheng.
